It has been few decades that Orthopaedics is being practiced in our country. Today one will find an Orthopaedic surgeon in every corner of the country. We have NITOR, a 500 bed specialized Orthopaedic & Trauma hospital & institute, that many countries in the world do not have. There are Orthopaedic departments in every medical colleges & district hospitals & many of the Thana health complexes. Yet there are some lacking, the Orthopaedic subspecialties are not that developed as it should have been. I myself is in Orthopaedics for almost for 3 decades. Few years back , I decided to concentrate more on Paediatrics & hand , so that I can help develop these subspecialties in Bangladesh. Today in comparison to Spine, Hand or Arthroscopy & Arthroplasty, Paediatric orthopaedics is much less developed in Bangladesh, but in our practice either in Govt hospital or elsewhere at least 20% of the patients are of paediatric group. So I thought as a senior Orthopaedic surgeon its my solemn duty to work on this nascent field . So I selected few of the younger Orthopaedic surgeons, who are either trained or takes interest in Paediatric Orthopaedics to form the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of Bangladesh. It is just a beginning & we have miles to go further, In our journey I believe more & more interested Orthopaedic surgeons will join us to make our endeavor a successful one. I urge upon all the Orthopaedic surgeons of Bangladesh , specially the senior group to extend their arm to us , for building an academic , scientific & dynamic Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of Bangladesh.
We are trying to establish standard treatment of pediatric orthopedic problem in our country through our experienced and next generation young orthopedic surgeons. our goal are as follows : 1. To let everyone know that pediatric orthopedic patients need special care and how to do it . 2. Ensure quality training to junior doctors to detect, treat and guide patients throughout country. 3. Regular arrangement of CME, hands on training etc 4. Arrange special consultation and treatment for complicated cases.
